Our client, an independent, international consulting practice, is seeking a Hydrogeological Modeller to join their Canadian Groundwater Group. This is a permanent, full-time, hybrid position based out of the Vancouver office, paying $80-120k, plus RRSP matching, share purchasing opportunities and a competitive vacation and benefits package.

They are seeking a skilled professional with a strong foundation in groundwater flow and transport modeling. This role will not only focus on groundwater modeling but also support the diverse needs of their hydrogeology, mining, geochemistry, and engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities:
Groundwater Modeling: Lead and review advanced modeling practices for physical flow, contaminant transport and reactions, pore pressure distributions, and uncertainty analysis. Providing modeling support across various disciplines through engagement with geochemists, hydrologists, structural geologists, and geotechnical engineers.
Project Involvement: Actively participate in all stages of mining studies, including preliminary economic assessments, feasibility studies, permitting studies (environmental assessments and mine permit applications), operational support, and research and development programs.
System Characterization: Characterize and develop 3D numerical models of groundwater systems, with consideration for cross-disciplinary impacts and environmental, social, and financial risks.
Communication: Effectively communicate complex scientific concepts in a clear and concise manner to clients, regulators, and stakeholders.
Engineering Support: Contribute to engineering design studies and provide insights and recommendations for remedial options, in-situ treatment, engineering solutions, and site-wide water and load balance models.
Field Work: Engage with hydrogeological, hydrological, or geotechnical field staff, and/or partake in field activities in a supporting role.
Team Collaboration and Management: Work closely with team members across all levels, from junior to principal, to manage tasks and junior staff. Ensure project goals and timelines are met while preparing reports and presentations for both internal and external audiences.

Essential Requirements:

  • A minimum of a master's or higher degree in geology, geological/civil engineering, or physical geography, with emphasis on geology, hydrogeology, hydrology, environmental engineering, and geotechnical (rock) skills.
  • Technical proficiency in groundwater numerical modelling (finite difference and/or finite element – FEFLOW™ preferred).
  • Proficiency in coding and statistics.
  • Experience with geological modelling software (Leapfrog™ preferred).
  • Self-motivated with a desire to work both as part of multi-disciplinary teams and independently.
  • Able to work long hours in the field, tolerating remote and variable weather conditions.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Excellent oral and presentation skills.
  • Professional registration in BC or current eligibility to obtain it.
  • Valid driver’s license valid for use in Canada with a good driving record.
  • Currently eligible to work in Canada.
