Our client, a multidisciplinary design and engineering firm with strong presence in Western Canada, is seeking a Junior Mechanical Technologist out of their Abbotsford office. This is a permanent, full-time role, offering a base salary commensurate with experience (approximately 60-75k), along with a competitive vacation and benefits package.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in drafting mechanical systems for residential, commercial, and light industrial buildings, ensuring that energy-saving, safe, and cost-effective solutions are delivered to our clients. You will be responsible for preparing mechanical drawings and assisting senior staff with production. Additionally, you will be required to perform other duties as directed by the Project Manager or designate on a project-by-project basis.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the drawing production of building-related mechanical systems including HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection systems across Canada using applicable codes, standards, and reference materials
- Able to work independently on specified scopes with minimal supervision
- Prepare contract drawings, schematics, schedules, details, and sketches from conceptual design through to construction
- Produce aspects of mechanical design and drawings in REVIT MEP, as well as in AutoCAD
- Coordination of mechanical systems and design with other disciplines
- Facilitate and ensure the quality of the project deliverables
- Adhere to the firm’s design standards in preparing drawings and specifications and following the design requirements established for each project
- Perform field surveys for drawing developments, site reviews and preparation of record drawings
- Communicate with other team members and become familiar with completing assignments and projects on time as required by the Project Manager, Discipline Lead or Supervisor
- Strive to accomplish company goals of high-quality workmanship and project timelines through the continual improvement of workflows and design standards
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology
- Experience in mechanical HVAC and plumbing drawing production
- Experience with AutoCAD and some experience with Revit required
- Working knowledge of mechanical systems, including plumbing, HVAC, heating and cooling
- Familiarity with NFPA, NECB, and ASHRAE standards, local building code and plumbing code is an asset
- Ability to read architectural, structural, electrical and civil drawings and to attend building sites with minimal supervision
- Knowledge of LEED requirements and energy modeling software is an asset
