Our client, an employee owned mechanical and electrical engineering consulting firm, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team out of their Ottawa office. This is a permanent, full time role with salary range of 80-130k, depending on experience, along with a competitive overall package.
Working within multi-discipline project teams, the ideal candidate will be an energetic team-player with experience managing project teams. Specifically mechanical design teams working in institutional, healthcare, municipal, commercial and industrial facilities. Your responsibilities will include all aspects of design and analyses, including system selection, life cycle cost calculation, and implementation of systems.
Qualifications:·
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of technical plans, drawings, and models (ex. AutoCAD, Revit, etc.).
- At least 5 years' experience in a consulting engineering environment
- Knowledge of Ontario Building Code, applicable CSA, ULC, NFPA and ASHRAE Codes and Standards.
- Familiarity with construction practices and procurement processes.
- The ability to work independently on complex institutional, industrial, municipal, healthcare and commercial engineering projects
- The ability to carry out routine construction assignments, site surveys and field work
- The ability to liaise with clients, contractors and local authorities
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
- Initiative and pro-active approach towards projects, with the ability to multi-task under stress of deadlines
- Desire to work in person, in a collaborative team environment
Responsibilities
- Liaison with clients and other consultants to determine project scope
- Perform building system analysis and design HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection components relevant to building projects of various sizes and complexities
- Prepare/review all project mechanical engineering calculations and select all equipment.
- Prepare and review project specifications and lead a design team to prepare drawings/schematics institutional, healthcare, municipal, commercial and industrial facilities.
- Document and communicate project scope to design team members
- Coordinate mechanical requirements with Senior Electrical Engineer/Designer and external consultants
- Coordinate with client, architect, interior designer, and other consultants
- Prepare fee and cost estimates, as requested, and tender documents according to office standards
- Oversee the performance of load calculations
- Ensure plans and specifications conform to applicable codes, good engineering practices and project scope
- Communicate all requirements clearly to internal and external teams.
- Work cohesively with a team overseeing projects during construction and respond to technical inquiries.
- Supervise intermediate and junior engineers, designers and cad operators
- Assigning tasks to technical/administrative support team members.
- Internal/external coordination, including managing and maintaining document quality.
- Full understanding of construction project procurement methods and apply that understanding to projects.
- Promote/enforce company standards relating to administration, documentation, and processes
- Conduct site reviews and attend project meetings with clients as required
- Stamp and sign drawings for submission to client
- Mentor and develop a team of engineers and designers
Education and Licensing:
Licensed professional engineer (P.Eng.)
University Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a College Diploma such as Mechanical Engineering Technology
