Our client, an innovative company that specializes in nuclear engineering, is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer. This is a full-time position, with a salary range of roughly 130-165k, depending on experience, accompanied by an attractive package flexible vacation, retirement savings contribution, access to a professional development fund, extended health and dental insurance, and more. This is a primarily remote role requiring client site visits as necessary, however there exists the option of working out of their offices in GTA or Bruce County as well. Our client would prefer to hire on a permanent basis but is willing to consider candidates who have a strong preference for contract employment. 
 
As an experienced electrical/I&C engineer, you will prepare, review, and/or verify design packages for use in Canadian nuclear power plants. The key requirement for this role is that while you have some proven experience in nuclear design engineering, you also demonstrate the ability to rethink the usual way of doing things, and to solve problems for customers efficiently.

Role Overview

We have an exciting opportunity to be in a key role of our growing design engineering team. We are looking for an innovator with electrical and/or instrumentation and control design experience in the nuclear industry. As an experienced electrical / I&C engineer, you will prepare, review, and/or verify design packages for use in Canadian nuclear power plants.

The key requirement for this role is that while you have some proven experience in nuclear design engineering, you also demonstrate the ability to rethink the usual way of doing things, and to solve problems for our customers efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Perform role of design engineer on various engineering assignments which require a general familiarity with a broad field of engineering and knowledge of reciprocal effects of the work upon other disciplines/fields.
  • Solve problems related to the electrical / I&C aspects of modifications to existing and/or new systems and components.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of modern design engineering tools and processes.
  • Mentor and develop junior design team members.
  • Emphasize continuous improvement and focus on bringing innovation, efficiency, and high quality to all engineering tasks and deliverables.

Technical Accountabilities

  • Prepare electrical and/or I&C design change papers, specifications, requirements, plans, and other technical deliverables for nuclear projects through progression of conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design phases in accordance with applicable requirements, codes, and standards.
  • Perform calculations and analysis required to prepare design deliverables referring to applicable requirements, codes, and standards.
  • Perform technical reviews/verification of engineering deliverables prepared by others.
  • Participate in design reviews with customers, vendors, and internal design groups.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines to define and achieve functionality, performance, reliability, availability, and maintainability.
  • Work with the project team and design team to solve design related problems.
  • Become proficient in and utilize the client’s enterprise document management system (Maximo) and procedures/forms to submit design deliverables meeting nuclear quality assurance standards.
  • Become proficient in and utilize the company’s quality assurance program to produce design deliverables. Provide meaningful feedback on areas for improvement. Participate in and contribute to project lessons learnt meetings.

What you bring to the table?

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario?with a?minimum of 5 years?of nuclear engineering design experience.
  • Good working knowledge of nuclear plant equipment and systems, design basis, and nuclear safety principles and eager to learn more.
  • Good working knowledge of the nuclear engineering change/modification process.
  • Proven understanding of the nuclear industry and Canadian regulatory standards, technical systems, equipment, methodologies, materials and design practices and criteria.
  • Familiarity with Ontario electrical safety code (CSA C22.1ON) required. Understanding of online wiring (OLW) considered an asset.
  • Experience performing fire protection design work in compliance with CSA N293 considered an asset.
  • You have an innovative mindset and ability to work with new ideas, technologies, and techniques.
  • Effective verbal, written and presentation communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • University Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent recognized degree.
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada.
  • Must be capable of obtaining site access clearance at Canadian Nuclear Facilities.
  • Must be able to visit client sites on a frequent basis.
