Our client, an employee-owned company that provides engineering and environmental services to public and private sector clients, is seeking Water Resources Engineers and EITs. The firm's principal focus is on watershed planning, environmental restoration, fluvial geomorphology, stormwater management (including Low Impact Development), aquatic and terrestrial ecology, environmental assessment and permitting, water resources engineering, and municipal infrastructure design.
Our client offers a hybrid work model and is looking for candidates to work out of any of their Guelph, Mississauga, or Ottawa offices. Successful candidates will be interested in working in a highly specialized work environment, where they’re collaborating with colleagues who are experts in their field to pioneer new techniques and push their technical abilities.
In this role, you will carry out varied engineering design work and will be expected to contribute to all elements of project delivery.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Contributing to project proposals
- Hydrologic and hydraulic modelling in support projects ranging from subwatershed-scale assessments to individual site design
- Developing detailed design drawings, acquisition of agency approvals, tender documents preparation and contractor support services
- Application of Federal, Provincial and Municipal regulation and standards
- Describing project results through the preparation of written reports and public displays
- Project administration and client liaison
- Attending public information meetings and responding to questions regarding project results
- Interacting with municipal and other government agency staff
- Providing technical guidance to staff with expertise in other disciplines
For this role, our client is seeking someone with a University degree in Water Resources, Environmental or Civil Engineering, preferably with a specialization in drainage/stormwater management. You will also have at least two years of applied engineering experience, preferably in the private sector.
You will also possess:
- Knowledge and application of relevant legislation and related policy documents such as the MOE SWMPD (2003), Clean Water Act, OWRA, Source Water Protection, the Blue Book, Fisheries Act, Environmental Assessment Act and Others
- Experience in the planning, design and construction of SWM systems
- Valid Class G Drivers License and access to a personal vehicle
- Experience with common hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software packages including HEC-RAS, PC-SWMM, INFOWORKS, MIKE, VISUAL OTTHYMO, and HSP-F. Prior 3D modeling experience will be considered an asset
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil3D will be considered an asset (You must have moderate capabilities and be willing to upgrade skills through in-house training)
- Ability to effectively use GIS will be considered an asset.
- Experience in Low Impact Development and Municipal design experience will be considered as assets
Strong project management and the ability to adhere to project schedules and budgets will serve you well in this role, as will excellent verbal and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to write detailed technical reports and documents. You will also be a self-starter who is comfortable working independently.
